CANDY HEARTS EXPERIMENT

WE DID AN EXPERIMENT WITH CANDY HEARTS. 

 THE KIDS PUT HEARTS INTO THREE DIFFERENT LIQUIDS- WATER, SODA, AND VINEGAR. 

WE OBSERVED THEM EVERYDAY AND AT THE END OF THE WEEK WE TOOK THEM OUT OF THE LIQUID.

WE ALSO GRAPHED CANDY HEARTS. THE KIDS SORTED THEIR HEARTS BY COLOR AND GRAPHED THE AMOUNT OF EACH.

WE READ BOOKS ABOUT VALENTINE’S DAY AND TALKED ABOUT WHAT WE SEE AND HOW WE SHOW LOVE ON THAT DAY.

WE USED THE BOOK TEN VALENTINE FRIENDS TO HELP WITH COUNTING.

SOMEONE GOT A LITTLE EXCITED WHEN WORKING ON HIS FINE MOTOR SKILLS. 

GROUNDHOGS DAY

WE READ BOOKS ABOUT GROUNDHOGS DAY AND TOOK A SURVEY TO SEE IF WE THOUGHT THE GROUNDHOG WOULD SEE HIS SHADOW.

WE READ ABOUT HIBERNATION AND THE DIFFERENT ANIMALS THAT HIBERNATE. WE ALSO TALKED ABOUT THE DIFFERENT PLACES THAT THEY HIBERNATE.
 










TO CELEBRATE CHINESE NEW YEAR WE TALKED ABOUT THE DIFFERENT ANIMALS THAT REPRESENT EACH YEAR AND THE KIDS LOVED THIS FILE FOLDER GAME.

ONE OF OUR CO-WORKERS COACHES THE 10TH GRADE BASKETBALL TEAM AND HAD ASKED NUMEROUS TIMES FOR US TO COME TO A GAME WELL HE FINALLY GAVE UP AND QUIT ASKING... SO WE KNEW IT WAS THE PERFECT TIME!

WHEN LEARNING ABOUT MARTIN, WE TALKED A LOT ABOUT PEACE. I FOUND THIS GREAT WORKSHEET FOR STUDENTS TO SHOW UNDERSTANDING A PEACEFUL AND NOT PEACEFUL AND MADE IT INTO AN ANCHOR CHART.

POLAR BEAR, POLAR BEAR

WE READ ABOUT POLAR BEARS AND TALKED ABOUT THE CAN, HAVE, AND ARE OF THE MAMMAL.

WE MADE POLAR BEAR PRINTS WITH A STENCIL OF THE BEAR AND A COMBINATION OF SHAVING CREAM, GLUE AND GLITTER. THE STUDENTS PAINTED AROUND THE ENDGE OF THE STENCIL.

WE ALSO READ A LOT OF POLAR BEAR, POLAR BEAR AND USED THE ANIMALS TO HELP TELL THE STORY ALONG WITH A SWITCH TO READ “WHAT DO YOU HEAR?”.

THE ANIMALS ARE FROM A STORY TELLING KIT FROM LAKESHORE LEARNING.
