ALL ABOUT APPLES

APPLES, APPLES, APPLES

WE FOCUSED ON APPLES THE LAST TWO WEEKS OF SEPTEMBER.

OUR OT DID AN APPLE STAMPING PROJECT. THE STUDENTS USED FORKS THAT WERE PUSHED INTO APPLES TO MANIPULATE PAINTING ON THE PAGE.

WHICH APPLE IS YOUR FAVORITE?

WE GRAPHED OUR FAVORITE APPLE BUY PICKING THE DESIRED COLOR PRESENTED. SOME STUDENTS WERE ABLE TO CHOOSE FROM A FIELD OF THREE, WHILE OTHERS NEEDED TO MAKE TWO CHOICES TO DETERMINE THEIR ANSWER.

ALL ABOUT ME: JOHNNY APPLESEED

WE READ A FEW BOOKS ABOUT JOHNNY APPLESEED AND THEN PICKED CARDS WITH FACTS ABOUT JOHNNY FROM A BASKET. EACH TIME THE STUDENTS WOULD PICK A CHOICE; WE WOULD READ IT, TALK ABOUT WHAT IT MEANT, AND WRITE IT ON THE CHART.

LABEL IT: APPLE

WE LABELLED THE PARTS OF AN APPLE. THE STUDENTS WERE
GIVEN A SLIP WITH A NAME
AND ASKED TO FIND THAT
PART ON THE CHART.

SIMPLY SPECIAL ED HAS FANTASTIC ADAPTED BOOKS FOR SEPTEMBER. THE PICTURE CHOICES WERE DISPLAYED AND PRESENTED TO THE STUDENTS IN A FIELD OF TWO OR THREE. WE USED BOTH LEVELS 1 AND 2 OF JOHNNY APPLESEED.

 CROCKPOT APPLESAUCE

THE STUDENTS HELPED PUT THE INGREDIENTS IN THE CROCKPOT AND WE LET IT COOK FOR FOUR HOURS. (IT SAID SIX... BUT LETS BE REAL WE DON'T HAVE THAT KIND OF TIME.) THEN, THE STUDENTS USED AN ADAPTED SWITCH TO BLEND THE INGREDIENTS IN THE CROCKPOT (MINUS THE LEMON PEEL AND CINNAMON STICK) TO MAKE APPLESAUCE.

IT WAS DELICIOUS!!! SOME OF THE STUDENTS EVEN REQUESTED MORE!

YOU CAN FIND THE RECIPE HERE:

  1. Hi! Loved that you made apple sauce with your kiddos. I was planning on using your recipe. Did you add any water? Or did you only use the ingredients that were listed on the chart paper?

    Thanks!
